A great day in Wellington on Saturday. We headed out to Makara for the Country Fair. A real community event with the old traditional fair activity, as well as a few innovations, such as the ‘hammering a nail into a tree stump’ competition! Caught up with quite a few locals, and also had a chat with Community Cop Dave Ross. (see below) Dave is one of the true identities of the Western Suburbs and Makara. Also popped into the Karori Normal School Fair, which was positively buzzing. A huge congratulations to the school community, including fellow candidate Heather Roy. Then it was off to the Russian Cultural Festival. The Russian community in Wellington is strong and well established. They have retained excellent language and cultural programmes for their young folk. It was a nice break to sit and listen to the singing, and I made a new friend. (pictured above)
